Today I'm thankful for sunshine. Seems the flowers agree as they're slowly reaching up for it... 







I love this time of year.  It's my faithful reminder of God's love and power.  Of mercies new every day and that even amidst the ugly, beauty can be found. 

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
Romans 8:28 ESV

"And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,  yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.    “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Yes, the whole world has been brought to its knees by the tiniest microbes, by Covid19. Yes, we live in a strange time of 'social' distancing.  Yes, you could catch it, you could get sick. But despite all these things we don't need to be worried or afraid. God has the whole world in His Hands, and He promises the seasons will continue, life continues.  He will give you all that you need and when times get tough remember that He is carrying you. Your strength is in Him and He will turn all things to the good of those who love Him. So plan, prepare, take precautions but trust that ultimately God is in control.

High risk, staying home, taking precautions against catching this world disrupting virus, but trusting that on this Good Friday day I am saved. I will rise because He rose.

Slaves and masters. A series on Ephesians Part 12 (Ephesians 6:5-9)

Read Ephesians 6: 5-9 Today's text is a difficult subject. Slavery was not part of God's intended design, so why do we see it in the Bible? Paul does not condone slavery; however, because of the socioeconomic situation of the Roman occupation, it was an embedded institution. The Christians Paul wrote to were subject to Roman laws, and therefore, many Jews were either slaves or masters.  Paul wrote a lot about our attitudes and how we should live our lives in the various roles we are placed in. This is why he wrote to slaves and masters. As with so many of his instructions, Paul addresses both perspectives and points them to God. No matter your station or status in this life, we are equal, in Christ, before God. Although we do not have slavery in our society here now, we can compare this relationship to that of an employer and employee. Cleanse me, oh God!

As a child, I often liked to play outside. Like many kids, I liked making mud pies and playing with dirt. There's several ways children will play; some get right down on their hands and knees or even sit right in the mud. They're not afraid to get dirty. Some, like me, liked to play with the mud but didn't really want to get filthy. I would crouch down and use sticks and occasionally use my hands. I wanted to have fun but didn't really want to get messy. Then, there are still other children who don't want to play with mud or have anything to do with getting dirty. But you can never truly avoid all puddles, especially when it's raining. In a way, you can compare the mud to sin. Some people wallow in their sin, loving every minute and not caring how dirty they get. Others want to have the fun and pleasure sin can bring but don't want to get too dirty. It's just a little fun.
