The Artist #NoartistlikeTheArtist



My father once said, "There's no artist like The Artist," and that sentence has stuck with me ever since. It's what comes to mind when I see a beautiful sunset or a blooming flower; indeed, so much of creation reminds me of God's power. The overwhelming sense of grandeur when standing on the edge of a canyon, or hearing the thunder boom, is a gift. It's incredible to think of all the amazing, intricate,  and beautiful things God has, and continues to, give. 

Everyone has been given talents, but I find myself drawn to the ones that evoke feelings and emotions. I admit I'm a little envious of those whose talents lie in the arts. Hearing a beautiful voice singing, or a well-played instrument, or absorbing the beauty of a painting or sculpture, can have a profound impact on one's emotions. So often I find peace in the beauty of this world that our awesome God has created. Psalm 19:1 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork," and so it does! 

God blesses us with moments like this. As created humans, we find inspiration in creation for our designs and works of art from the things around us in life. Our inspiration comes from seeing the things that God has created, but we need tools and supplies to make anything. God needed nothing to inspire Him beyond Himself; He designed all things, He creates out of nothing, He speaks, and things come into being. "By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; He puts the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him! For He spoke and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm" (Psalm 33:6-9). All of creation tells us of the power of God. "For His invisible attributes, namely His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse" (Romans 1:20). If you look, there is evidence of God's hand at work in all creation, and even in our lives. 

Getting to know God is easy; He gives us His word to study, and we can see evidence of His power all around us. Choose and make time to study His word, and appreciate the beauty of His creation. Learn to live as God requires us to and praise Him for His awesome work in all He has made, done, and continues to do. James 1:5 tells us that "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." Take the time to enjoy the intricate and beautiful things He has made, and seek the wisdom God has given us in His word.

  Family. For some, family is a happy, healthy, and comforting thing, but for others, it can be quite a painful word. Disappointment

Have you ever felt disappointed in God? Something happens in life that you can’t understand, and it makes you feel let down that God allowed it to happen. Sounds pretty awful, but hear me out. I always wanted children, but when I received them, it was nothing like I had imagined. God blessed me with nine children; however, He chose to call every one of them home to Himself before I could even meet them. When I was pregnant with our last child, I ended up carrying her for the longest time. I got to a point where I thought perhaps I would be allowed to keep this one. But God had other plans, and my little girl was called to her heavenly home long before I was ready. My disappointment and hurt were harder to endure than anything else in my life. God gave me what I wanted, but I felt He took them away too soon. "What then shall we do?"

What then shall we do? The Bible is filled with verses that teach us how to live our lives and how to use the many blessings and gifts God gives us. Many of us don’t like to be told how to spend our money or use our time, and it can be uncomfortable to hear that we may not be living as God requires. But it is wiser to learn to use our blessings, be it talents, money, or possessions, as God tells us to. Proverbs 11:24-25 says, One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. This seems contradictory; the world will tell you to hold on to as much as possible, after all, didn’t you work hard to get what you have? God has every right to tell us what to do with ourselves and our possessions; we are His, and all good things we have are gifts He has given us. So, what does God tell us about giving?
